You can e-mail me text to include below I am another one of local folks who found Rob through the Groupon deal offered earlier this year. I am so glad I jumped on the opportunity to learn how to fly fish! I would recommend a fly fishing adventure with Rob to anyone, regardless of age, experience, or skill level. He was patient, fun, and extremely helpful. He is very knowledgeable on all aspects of fly fishing, as well as the DC area's best spots. Not to mention that his background in biology and teaching really plays a roll in how successful he is. Rob is very personable and remembered all of our names right from the get-go. Had a great time! Mandy S. 10/10/2011 I purchased a Groupon for a 2 hour guided fishing trip with Rob Snowhite (I am sure most people reading either know him or have read his posts) awhile back and finally got to use it this past Sunday. My main goals for the trip was to get my girlfriend to have a good time, learn a little bit about how to handle a fly rod, and have a generally positive association with fly fishing. I can say mission accomplished on all three. Rob was great getting her to sort of cast and she even hooked and landed her first fish on the fly rod, then her second and third and on and on. We met Rob at a small lake in Reston at noon and fished till about 2
PM. It was the heat of the day, but we still had great surface action
on bluegills and small bass. I am not sure how many fish we landed,
but we had constant action. Rob rowed us around the lake in his
spacious/comfortable drift boat. I used my own fly rod but he also
provided high quality equipment, the flies, and leaders. James O. 6/4/2011 My husband and I bought a Groupon for a 2 hour flyfishing lesson -- it was AWESOME!! I always thought that flyfishing was complicated, but Rob made it super easy and we had so much fun that morning. He gave us a lesson and let us get to work fishing. He helped us troubleshoot and untangled all our lines. If you look at my trends in review, rarely do I give out 5s, i'm very hard to please but Rob and his biology and fly fishing knowledge was amazing! I bought this as a gift for the bf b/c we're from the inner city ny/nj and he's been talking about fishing forever since we've moved down to the DC area. We started off bright and early (9am) at Holmes Run (VA), he gave us a run down of what to expect and how to hold the poles then we were on our way! We went to 4 spots and along each trail he would point out some funky looking foliage and nasty bugs. He also attempted to explain about how important baits were, how we needed to pay attention to our surround, high tide/low tide etc.. wayyy to much info for the morning so probably only 25% of the info stuck but well worth it. ~Liz 4/25/2011 Fly fishing is always rewarding but also implies some work will be involved. For some people that's half the fun for others it means taking time they don't have. With Rob it was nothing but pure enjoyment. From his preperation before you ever cast a line to his simple yet relevant instruction he provides an outstanding service. Not only did I catch fish but I learnt the ins and outs of fly fishing in this area. His sincere love of his craft rubbed off on me and I'm awaiting the delivery of my first fly set up in 10 years. Thanks Rob, you are a gentlemen and made it all so easy and memorable. I highly reccomend you take any opportunity to employ Robs services. You will not be disappointed. ~TH 4/12/2011 Your clouser flys from 2001 still do the trick. It was like an aged Christmas gift. I found the box, tied it on, and the fish chased them around the canal. From the Potomac to the Gulf, Snowhite flys land the fish. Last week (8/26/10) my daughter and her friend (both 11) spent 2hrs with Rob wet wading in the warm August waters of the Potomac at Riverbend Park. Her friend had been a last minute sub for me (I couldn't find my MD license) and Rob was gracious and flexible on this point. The two "students" were of very different levels: my daughter had learned the basics of casting on grass but had not been on moving water; her friend had never even touched a fly rod. It was quickly apparent to me that the disparity was going to be too much of a stretch for Rob to handle well. As I'd sprung the change last minute, I suggested Rob guide my daughter on the river while I helped her friend get started. This arrangement seemed to work well. Most of the time Rob and my daughter were some distance away and often out of sight/sound, so I cannot honestly comment on his teaching. Rob kept things light hearted, the kids had fun and my daughter had the thrill of landing her first fish on a fly rod. In the final analysis, that's was what it was all about. My son and I went out fishing with Rob yesterday near Great Falls, VA. It was our first intro to Fly Fishing, and all I can say is that Rob was great! First time out we learned the basic cast, and I actually caught 2 small fish in 2 hours! I highly recommend Rob to anyone that is interested in learning this exciting new sport! When I met Rob for my lesson he arrived early, greeted me with a firm handshake and friendly smile and within five minutes had me casting damsel flies on the Potomac River. I had the chance to book and receive tips from Rob Snowhite last week and have to say that I am truly impressed with his passion, knowledge and friendliness about the sport (and some would say the "Art") of fly fishing. These qualities were obvious the moment I met him for my session. He gets out into the water with you and was right there casting, tying flies and spotting fish strikes so that you can maximize your enjoyment on the water. He shares his tips, insights on the varieties of equipment, species and locations in and around the D.C. area. If you are remotely interested in learning to fly fish, having Rob introduce you to this wonderful pastime is worth the price of admission. ~Carl 8/24/2010 Rob is a very gifted fisherman who is willing to share his wealth of knowledge with anyone interested in learning how to fish. Rob is fun to be around as he keeps the mood light with his witty sense of humor. If you're searching for a fun-filled day of fishing and entertainment, Rob is your guy. ~ Brian K. 8/9/2010 My first experience fly fishing was when Rob took me out on Reston's Lake Audubon in June of this year. He set me up with all the equipment I needed and before I even knew how to reel in a fish I had a largemouth bass on the hook. Rob was a great instructor and he kept me entertained with fishing stories and some of the history behind Reston's lakes. I highly recommend Rob to anyone who's looking for a fly fishing guide in the DC area. ~Dale 8/5/2010 Rob is a great angler and guide, I highly recommend him to any fisherman that is interested in fishing at any level. Rather a beginner or advanced fisherman, you will learn from Rob. Additionally, he is an expert in the area as far as where and how to catch wide varieties of fish. I had never been fly-fishing before and Rob had me casting well enough to catch a bass on a pond within 30 minutes! ~Todd 7/2010 As a birthday gift,
my father gave me some money toward taking up fly-fishing. To start
off, I really wanted a class from someone knowledgeable and experienced
but also who I could comfortably ask very basic questions of. Rob
was great. He led me through the basics of fly-fishing from rods and
reels, casting, and which flies to use, to reading water, things to
bring, and where to fish. And he did it all with an enthusiasm
that was contagious. He clearly loves fly-fishing and we had a
lot of fun. He seemed to have enjoyed the time as much as I did!
I would highly recommend him! Rob, Just wanted you to know that I used one
of the bluefish flies you made for me, with success! Not much room to
cast on the boat, but still managed to catch 3 on 1 fly in Chesapeake,
near Lewisetta.
- Earl C. September 2008 A deal that includes
competitively priced hand-tied flies and an on-the-water demonstration
sounds too good to be true; but it wasn't! Thanks, Rob, for meeting me
at the lake to discuss each pattern, to explain and demonstrate
casting, presentation and retrieval techniques, and to swap fish
stories. All the best.
- Willard S. August 2009 Rob: Hello, hopefully you received my payment by now. Today i went out and used the clouser, i caught 10 bass in greenbelt maryland off 193. three were keepers... the other seven were not. everyone was looking at my hook trying to figure out what i was using for bait. my buddy was using live bait and did not get a nibble. Everyone was laughing at my "cheap rods" when i got there. But once i started snagging them in... it was so funny. i took the to the warf and got them cleaned. i plan to cook them tonight. Thanks again, Tom - Tom, July 2010
